Fairy Fashions {Fairies of Versailles}

Once a season, during the Orange Blossom Festival, it became the time of the fairy. Glamours were light or entirely forgotten. The humans of the court were to heady from the aroma of blossoms and they were more likely to explain away a fin or a wing as magnificent artistry. Many a young careless sprite was stopped by a great lady desperate to find the craftsman who made her wings, so real, so like a moths. Older water and river sprites who had been at court would don fanciful creations. They would scandalize and thrill the court. Was that a fin beneath the lace? Was the lace made of butterfly wings? Nothing could be certain under the flames of thousands of candles, except that no dress like it had been seen before.
